Local can mean your neighbourhood, your village, town or city, your county or even
region! Local action can also be known as grassroots action - it all adds up and
can really bring about change. Local action can be taken in a number of ways:
Talk to your neighbours Do you know your neighbours? Or the people
on your street? If not, extend the hand of friendship and say hello next time you
see them. You never know how much you might have in common! You could find that
you can support each other and even improve each others quality of life.
Join your neighbourhood forum Feel passionately about representing
the views of young people in your area? Join your local neighbourhood forum and
help give the youth of your community a voice. Be part of decision making and have
a say in how money is spent for things that happen in your area and challenge the
negative stereotyping of young people at the same time.
Get involved in local projects There could be a variety of projects
in your area that you could get involved with, depending on what your interests
are. If you’re in Derby, check out current opportunities at GED. A good place to
start finding projects is www.do-it.org.uk
Be the change you wish to see You're knowledge of your area is valuable
and unique so, if there's something that you think could be improved, try to change
it! Check out vinspired.com/rewards/diy for some inspiration.
