Common Goal was a peer education for active citizenship project. Global Education Derby worked creatively with sports coaches, secondary school staff, sports partnership coordinators and students over three years to explore how sports based approaches can enhance the curriculum, promoting inclusion and academic achievement.
The aim was to prepare students to live and work in a rapidly changing society, where the ability to understand others, adapt to change and reflect on personal perceptions and actions is paramount. The power of sport to connect, motivate and engage young people is a central theme of the project.
Students were supported to gain social and communication skills, both within the classroom and in new contexts, while working collaboratively with peers from a contrasting locality as part of a structured learning programme.
We have produced a teachers guide and student workbook to support participants to gain level 1 accreditation. It can be accessed here Common Goal/Peer Mentoring
