Growing Schools
The Growing Schools has now come to an end. The project supported to schools in Derby and Derbyshire who wanted to make the most of their school grounds for teaching and learning. You can view an evaluation of the project here.
The project offered:
- Training for teachers, support staff, and parents on gardening related themes (including school grounds use, design and managment, composting, organic gardening, taking the curriculum outdoors, setting up and running a gardening club, and education for sustainable development)
- One to one advice sessions or telephone help on what plants to grow, health and safety, garden maintenance, designing and planning your school garden.
- Pupil workshops on composting, growing plants and school grounds design
- Special offers to participating schools, including compost bins, plants, seeds, and teaching resources
- Help for allotment societies who would like to educate children about growing plants
- A termly newsletter
- A garden competition for Derby Schools
