Growing Schools
What does the Growing Schools Project Offer? The Growing Schools
Project offers support to schools in Derby and Derbyshire who want to
incorporate more gardening activities into school life. This could be help
planning and implementing a school garden, or help with linking to a local
allotment society.
Specifically
- Training for teachers, support staff, and parents on gardening
related themes (including school grounds use, design and managment,
composting, and organic gardening)
- Pupil workshops on composting, growing plants and school grounds
design
- Special offers to participating schools, including compost bins,
plants, seeds, and teaching resources
Who is already involved?
- Central Nursery, Derby are planning pupil workshops, INSET for
teaching staff and a 'composting coffee morning' for parents
- Allenton Primary school are planning to plant trees in their school
grounds. They have already named their classrooms after different types
of trees, and plan to involve their gifted and talented pupils in
designing a planting scheme. They are also planning a family learning
day to involve parents in planting and learning how to care for the
trees.
- St. Chads Infant and Nursery School are planning to develop their
school grounds for growing plants
