Global Education Derby - Learning for a better world

GED Projects

This webpage gives details of current and past projects. New projects are always under development and input from teachers, local authority advisors, or other education practitioners is welcome. We have set up an online groupsite for project development so that people can contribute to discussions as and when it suits them. New projects currently under discussion on this site include the possibility of setting up a project to provide "Global Experience" placements for youth practitioners through partners in Uganda and Argentina, and ways to enhance local ITE provision. If you would like to join in these discussions please email david@globaleducationderby.org.uk to get access.

Global Citizenship and Sustainable Schools

On 31st march 2009 our three year DfID-funded project called Green Flag for Development came to an end.

For all teachers struggling with how to introduce global issues and perspectives into your Eco-Schools or Sustainable Schools programmes, help is now at hand. Global Education Derby have just launched a new website www.green-flag.org.uk based on the project with lots of free downloadable resources for all Key Stages. Developed by teachers, for teachers the resources are practical, fun and challenging activities to engage your pupils, get them thinking and help them learn. The activities also link with National Curriculum programmes of study for a wide range of subjects including English, Art and Design, Geography, Design Technology, Science, Music, Citizenship and PSHE.

Global Citizenship and the International School Award

The Widening Horizons project is helping schools use North-South links to enhance their curriculum.

Global Citizenship and Indigenous Knowledge

The Through Other Eyes project is creating an online learning resource for teachers and teacher trainers on the theme of indigenous knowledge. The potential of indigenous knowledge (as a set of perspectives that challenge western concepts of development) to provide the stimulus to critical thinking and enquiry so essential to global citizenship has been underemphasised in development education. Working with partners in Brazil, this project is a first attempt to redress the balance

Global Youth Work

The new Enabling Effective Support for the Youth Sector in the East Midlands programme provides training and support for youth workers who would like to introduce a global dimension to their work.

New methodologies for global learning

The Open Spaces for Dialogue and Enquiry project is developing a new methodology for teaching about global issues in a way that encourages reflection and critical thinking. Although new, it has already been recognised as "highly valuable" in the January 2007 Diversity and Citizenship Curriculum Review. We are currently coordinating the "teacher and development educator" component of the national OSDE network.
