Global Learning for Community Cohesion
Global Learning for Community Cohesion was a DfID-funded project working in collaboration with the Schools Linking Network to bring together the two agendas of global learning and community cohesion. The funding from DFID’s Development Awareness Fund has enabled the creation of an all-new set of teaching resources for the primary classroom and for Continuing Professional Development for teachers. These can be found in our RESOURCES section.
Global Education Derby worked with Lifeworld’s Learning to produce these exciting activities. These resources allow teachers to explore the issues of community cohesion – such as belonging, identity, diversity and equality – through a global lens. These resources are suitable for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 and can help with spiritual, moral and cultural understanding in the classroom.
The resources build on the Open Spaces for Dialogue and Enquiry methodology, aiming to make the techniques of critical literacy more accessible and relevant to primary schools. Tackling controversial issues, developing an ethical relationship to difference and coping with uncertainty and complexity are all explored through this comprehensive set of classroom resources.
Additional CPD resources for teachers provide easy-to-use materials to facilitate staff meeting sessions for teachers to prepare and think through how to teach the complex issues of community cohesion and global learning.
