This project worked with predominately young people from Diaspora communities. The project was coordinated by International Alert (www.international-alert.org) with a special interest in issues of conflict and peace. We linked with a number of local agencies getting the project going including Jobs, Enterprise, Training (JET), Surtal Arts, New Communities in Social Enterprise (NCISE) and the Multi Faith Centre in Derby.
We worked with young people to explore issues they faced through the Connect, Challenge, Change framework. Youth workers supported them with resources, skills and training to bring about personal change, lead by the young people themselves. The aim was to reduce tension and increase community cohesion. Participants were celebrated as positive role models to other young people and the wider community.
This was a national project with partners: Lancashire DEC, Y-Care International London and a research element being fulfilled through the Conflict and Change Centre Newham, Community Accord Bradford and Community Resolve Bristol.
A useful toolkit for youth workers has been published as a result of this project and can be found HERE in our resources section
